Stretching your grocery budget can be a challenge. Up until a few years ago, I went grocery shopping once a month. The reason I did this was because I believed that if I shopped once a month that I would save time and money. I never realized that grocery stores developed weekly sales papers. I was clueless about grocery coupons and their immense value to shoppers. Don’t get me wrong, when I entered the grocery store, of course I picked up a sales paper. When I read the Sunday paper and just so happened to find a coupon for a name brand product that my family used, of course I clipped it. While walking up and down the grocery aisles I’d make sure to compare prices and I’d normally purchase a lot of store brands. I was naive enough to think that I was a frugal shopper.
One day I saw a news broadcast about a woman who had been shopping with grocery coupons for more than 30 years. I watched in amazement as the woman proceeded to put product after product into her grocery basket. Unlike me, she did not even think about buying store products. All of the groceries she selected were name brand products!
She walked around the grocery store, implementing her coupon strategy. She explained that she she collected all the coupons she could find. She looked in grocery sales paper before going shopping and she only bought items that were on sale. She went on to explain that all items that she purchased had a manufacturers coupon, which she used to achieve extra savings.When she finished shopping, she had a basket full of name brand groceries. She spent less than $10.00.
After watching that incredible story, I decided to become a serious coupon shopper. I now shop once per week instead of one time a month. I collect coupons. Many of which I print online. I now really plan my shopping trips. Because of manufacturers coupons and smart shopping, I have gotten many items free or almost free. If you don’t use grocery coupons, you are spending a lot more money than you have to on food and personal care items. What could you do with a couple of extra hundred dollars per month? Answer that question before your next shopping trip.
